Hardwood firewood from Sydney tree removals
Our crews remove trees across southern Sydney and the Shire. The good hardwood doesn’t go to waste — we cut, split and supply it as firewood, so you get honest local timber rather than mystery wood off a truck.
Because it comes from our own removals, what’s on hand changes through the season — usually a mix of Australian hardwoods like gum and ironbark. We’ll always tell you honestly what we’ve got, how well it’s seasoned, and when fresh stock is coming in, so you can plan your winter.

How to tell if firewood is seasoned
Unseasoned wood holds more moisture and is more likely to smoke. The NSW EPA says to burn only dry, seasoned hardwood and to store freshly cut wood under cover for 8–12 months before using it. The Firewood Association of Australia puts seasoned firewood at less than 25% moisture, preferably 12–20%, and says a moisture meter is the most reliable test. Without one, these checks help:

Buying firewood by weight or by volume
- Both are allowed. The National Measurement Institute says firewood can be sold by weight (tonnes or kilograms) or by volume (cubic metres).
- A cubic metre is measured stacked. The NMI says volume is worked out from wood stacked neatly with as few gaps as possible: width × height × length.
- Tipped loads look bigger. The Firewood Association of Australia warns that a load tipped loose will often be considerably less wood than the size of the bin or cage it came in.
- Tonnes and cubic metres don’t convert neatly. The FAA says cubic metres and tonnes can’t be compared, because of differences in wood density, moisture content and how well the wood was stacked. It calls buying by weight “probably safest”, as long as the wood is dry.

Firewood questions
What type of firewood do you supply?
Australian hardwood from our own tree removals, mostly eucalypts such as blackbutt, ironbark and blue gum. The exact species depend on what we have removed recently, and we tell you what is in your load.
Is your firewood seasoned?
We carry seasoned stock when it is available, and we always tell you honestly how dry a load is. Freshly cut hardwood needs time to season, so ask us what is ready to burn now.
What is the best firewood to burn?
Dry, dense hardwood. The NSW EPA says to burn only dry, seasoned hardwood. The Firewood Association of Australia rates red gum as excellent in a slow-combustion heater, and says turpentine and white stringybark do not burn well.
Do you deliver firewood?
Yes. We deliver across the St George area and the Sutherland Shire, or you can pick up from our Mortdale yard. Further afield, we can often drop a load when it fits around our tree jobs. We confirm delivery to your suburb when you call.
How much firewood can I order?
Anything from a small load up to larger loose loads. Tell us roughly how much you go through and we will recommend a quantity.
Do you have firewood available right now?
Availability changes through the season because it comes from our tree work. Call 0422 023 242 and we will tell you exactly what is on hand.
How should I store firewood?
Under cover in a dry, ventilated spot, raised off the ground. The Firewood Association of Australia says never to stack firewood against the house, because it may give termites a bridge in.
What should I never burn?
The NSW EPA says never to burn rubbish, or painted or treated wood, and not to burn green or wet wood.
Can I collect my own firewood from a national park or state forest?
Not to take home. NSW National Parks says collecting firewood from within a park to use outside the park is prohibited, and notes that dead hollow-bearing trees and fallen wood are habitat for many native animals. In state forests you need a permit from Forestry Corporation of NSW, and only some state forests are open for collection.
