Tree removal Pymble

Tall gums on big Pymble blocks

Pymble sits on the North Shore ridge where Blue Gum High Forest once grew, and it shows in the backyards: Sydney Blue Gums and Blackbutts of 30 metres and more, Turpentines, and beneath them the Camphor Laurels, Liquidambars and Jacarandas the original owners planted. Half-acre blocks and deep setbacks mean there is usually room to rig a tree down inside the property, but they also mean long drags and a lot of lawn, garden bed and tennis court to protect.

That size of tree is our normal work. We dismantle in sections and lower every piece, we bring the loader and tracked chipper to the tree rather than dragging the tree to the road, and where a crane can set up we price that option too because it often turns three days into one.

Ku-ring-gai Council is strict and thorough, and the Blue Gum High Forest listing adds another layer on some blocks. We check what applies to your tree, write the AQF Level 5 report, and lodge the application so the council has everything it needs first time.

Pymble specifics

Ku-ring-gai Council rules and Blue Gum High Forest

Council: Ku-ring-gai Council protects any tree 5 m or taller or with a trunk 150 mm or more across. The fee is $88 to remove and $44 to prune; dead and dangerous trees still need Council approval; and the larger removals need an AQF Level 5 arborist’s report. See our Ku-ring-gai Council tree removal guide for the full rules. Pruning inside the council’s exempt limits does not need a permit, and we tell you where that line is.

Blue Gum High Forest: Remnants of Blue Gum High Forest survive in parts of Ku-ring-gai (Council says the largest is in St Ives), and the community is listed as critically endangered in NSW and nationally. Trees that are part of that community attract extra scrutiny, and removal can need more than a standard application. We identify whether your tree is part of the community before you apply.

Access: Deep setbacks and long drives. We mat the route, bring the machinery to the tree and walk it with you before the first cut so nothing is driven over that should not be.

Tree loppers in Pymble

Looking for a tree lopper or tree trimmer in Pymble?

Under Ku-ring-gai Council’s rules, anything 5 metres or taller, or with a trunk 150 mm or more across at ground level, is a tree, and pruning or removing it usually needs Council permission. Council’s fee is $88 to remove one tree and $44 to prune one, plus $13 for each extra tree.

So we do not lop. We trim and reduce to AS 4373, tell you whether the job is exempt or needs an application, and lodge it for you. A dead tree cannot be touched until Council confirms in writing that it is dead.

Pymble questions

Pymble tree questions

Is my Pymble gum protected?

If it is 5 m tall or 150 mm across the trunk, yes, under Ku-ring-gai’s controls — and if it is part of the Blue Gum High Forest it carries extra protection. We check both before you apply.

What does it cost to remove a 30 m Blue Gum?

Typically $5,000–$25,000+ ex GST: lower for a rigged dismantle with fair access, higher where it is over a pool or two roofs and needs a crane or three days of rigging. The table below is from our own 2026 jobs.

Can you reduce it rather than remove it?

Usually, and Ku-ring-gai prefers it. A crown reduction or thin to AS 4373 keeps the tree, drops the risk and typically costs $800–$4,000 ex GST.

What it costs

Prices from our own 2026 jobs
