Arborist Miranda — established gardens, new builds and everything in between
Miranda is being rebuilt street by street, and the old Camphor Laurels, Liquidambars and gums are in the way of the new houses. We clear, remove, protect and rebuild — excavation and turf included — with Sutherland Shire paperwork handled. AQF Level 5, $20M insured.

Backyard excavation and rebuild.
Our own Miranda photos.

- Miranda backyard: trees and stumps out, root plates grubbed, block excavated to level and rebuilt with turf and beds.
- Sutherland Shire tree removal followed by turf preparation and installation by the same crew.

The suburb where tree work turns into site work.
Miranda has more knock-down rebuilds and duplex builds going on than almost anywhere else in the Shire. That changes what a tree job looks like. It is rarely just “remove the tree”: it is remove three trees and two stumps, grub the roots, cut the block to level, get rid of the spoil, and either hand it to the builder clean or put the yard back with turf and a retaining wall. We do all of that with our own machinery — loader, chipper, stump grinder, tip trucks — and hire an excavator when the job needs one.
On the established streets the work is more traditional: Camphor Laurels and Liquidambars that are far too big for a 600 m² block, Jacarandas over the driveway, and old fruit trees and palms that nobody wants anymore. Camphor Laurels and fruit trees are exempt in Sutherland Shire, so those can go without an application; most of the rest need one, and we tell you which before you spend anything.
Toward Yowie Bay and Gymea Bay the blocks fall to the water and the trees are Angophoras, Blackbutts and Turpentines — protected, valuable, and a rigging job when they need work.
Clearing, building, keeping.
Site clearing for rebuilds
Trees, stumps and roots out, block levelled, spoil removed, ready for the builder. One quote, one crew. See land clearing.
Camphor Laurel and Liquidambar removals
The two most-removed trees in Miranda. Sectional dismantle over the house and driveway, stump ground below grade. See tree removal.
Tree protection on the build
AS 4970 assessments, protection fencing and Project Arborist certification for the trees the council makes you keep. See tree protection zones.
Putting the yard back
Excavation, retaining, drainage, turf and planting after the trees are gone. See landscape construction.
Shire rules for a suburb under construction.
Council: Sutherland Shire Council. Protection starts at a 100 mm trunk measured 500 mm above ground. Camphor Laurel, Weeping Fig, Rubber Tree, Italian Cypress, most pines and wattles and edible fruit trees are exempt; dead trees without hollows are exempt; roofline clearance and storm-damage pruning are exempt. Trees within 3 m of the house or pool are normally approved for removal on application. Removals tied to a DA are assessed with the DA, which is where the AS 4970 report comes in.
Site works: Once a tree is out on a rebuild site, the stump and root plate have to be grubbed, not just ground, or the slab contractor will find them. We remove the root plate, backfill and compact, and leave the block at the level the builder asked for.
Access: Flat and wide on most Miranda streets, which means machinery does the heavy lifting and the price stays down. Bay-side blocks are steeper and rigged by hand.
Asked most often around Miranda.
We are knocking down and rebuilding. Can you clear the whole block?
Yes. Trees, stumps, roots, sheds, fences and green waste, then cut to level. Protected trees need approval through the DA, which we write the AS 4970 report for. See land clearing.
Is a Camphor Laurel exempt in Miranda?
Yes — Sutherland Shire lists Camphor Laurel as an exempt species, so it can be removed without an application. Georges River, next door, only exempts them under 6 m, so the rule changes at the council boundary.
Do you hire in an excavator?
For the bigger cuts, yes — we run our own loader, chipper, stump grinder and tip trucks and bring an excavator in when a site needs one. It is all on the one quote.
