Tight-access tree removal in Gymea and Gymea Bay

Gymea was subdivided narrow. A lot of the blocks off Gymea Bay Road and President Avenue have a side path under a metre wide, a carport across the front, and a rear yard that drops toward Gymea Bay or Coonong Creek. The trees back there — Angophoras, Blackbutts, Turpentines, and the Jacarandas and Liquidambars the 1960s owners added — are now over the house and there is no way to get a truck near them.

This is what our tight-access setup is for. A climber dismantles the tree from the top, every section is lowered on a line to a cleared drop zone, and the ground crew cuts and carries to the tracked chipper at the front. Nothing is dropped, nothing goes over the neighbour’s fence, and the path, lawn and garden are protected with mats. When we leave the yard is raked and the driveway swept.

Sutherland Shire Council protects every tree over 100 mm trunk. We tell you before you pay whether the Shire is likely to say yes, and point you to an independent arborist when a report is needed.

Gymea specifics

Sutherland Shire Council rules on narrow blocks

Council: Sutherland Shire Council — protected from a 100 mm trunk at 500 mm above ground; exempt species include Camphor Laurel, Weeping Fig, Rubber Tree, Italian Cypress, pines, wattles and fruit trees; dead trees without hollows exempt; storm-broken limbs and roofline clearance exempt; within 3 m of the house or pool normally approved on application; up to 28 business days; permits last two years.

Access: Rear-yard jobs on narrow Gymea blocks cost more than front-yard ones because everything is done by hand. We measure the side path at the quote and price it honestly.

Bushfire: Grays Point and the Gymea Bay foreshore border the Royal National Park and are bushfire-prone; the RFS 10/50 rule may apply on some lots. See the 10/50 rule.

Gymea questions

Gymea tree questions

Our side path is under a metre. Can you still do it?

Yes. The climber, ropes and a tracked chipper and grinder all fit through a standard gate. The tree comes out in pieces small enough to carry.

Will you damage the lawn or paving carrying everything out?

We lay mats on the path and lawn and wheel or carry on those. The yard is raked and the driveway swept before we leave.

Why does a rear-yard removal cost more?

Time. A tree that can be dropped and chipped at the front takes a morning; the same tree rigged and carried from the back takes a day. We say which it is at the quote.
