Tree Removal Alfords Point — national-park edge, steep river blocks
Alfords Point is wrapped by the Georges River National Park, so its trees are big, protected and bushfire-relevant. We assess, prune and remove them with the Shire and RFS rules checked first, and we are ten minutes over the bridge from our Mortdale depot. AQF Level 5, $20M insured.

A small suburb surrounded by forest.
Alfords Point is a single peninsula of streets with the national park on the river side and bushland reserve on the other. Almost every block touches native vegetation, and the trees on the blocks — Blackbutts, Sydney Red Gums, Scribbly Gums, Bloodwoods — are the same forest, kept when the estate was built in the 1980s. They are now 30 to 40 years bigger.
That gives Alfords Point two things to manage. The first is bushfire: much of the suburb is mapped bushfire-prone and sits in an RFS 10/50 entitlement area, which can allow removal of trees within 10 m of the house without a Sutherland Shire application. The second is the trees themselves: big gums over roofs, over pools and over the steep drop to the river, which need proper assessment and, when it comes to it, proper rigging.
We are on the other side of the Alfords Point Bridge, ten minutes away. Same-day site visits are normal, and after a storm we are usually there within the hour.
Bushfire, big gums and the river slope.
10/50 and asset-protection clearing
Eligibility checked with the RFS tool, trees within 10 m of the house removed, understorey managed. See the 10/50 rule.
Big gum assessments
Climbing inspection and written report on the Blackbutt or Bloodwood over the house before you decide anything. See tree health assessment.
Removals on the river slope
Sectional dismantle with lowering lines where the block drops to the water, crane from the street where it can reach. See tree removal.
Storm response
Limbs on roofs after a southerly, made safe the same day. See 24/7 emergency.
Across the bridge and around the bend.
Our own photos from Lugarno and Menai, minutes away.

- Mature Blackbutt craned out over a house in Lugarno, directly across the river.
- Gum removal on a bushland-edge block in Menai, yard rebuilt afterwards.
- Vegetation clearing of around 50 trees on one property, mulch left on site.
- Deadwood and weight reduction on Angophoras backing onto foreshore reserve.
Shire, RFS and the park boundary.
Sutherland Shire Council: protected from a 100 mm trunk at 500 mm above ground; exempt species include Camphor Laurel, Weeping Fig, Rubber Tree, Italian Cypress, pines, wattles and fruit trees; dead trees without hollows exempt; storm-broken limbs and roofline clearance exempt; within 3 m of the house or pool normally approved on application; up to 28 business days to determine.
RFS 10/50: Lot-by-lot eligibility. Where it applies, trees within 10 m of the home’s external walls can be cleared without council approval. It does not extend onto the national park or the reserve — the boundary is the boundary, and we survey it before we start.
Habitat: Hollow-bearing gums on the park edge are habitat and the Shire protects them hard. We identify hollows before quoting and retain the tree where it is safe to.

Asked most often around Alfords Point.
Can I clear the trees behind my house for bushfire safety?
On an eligible 10/50 lot, trees within 10 m of the house can go without a Shire application, and other vegetation within 50 m. The RFS tool decides eligibility — send us the address and we check it with the quote. Beyond that, or on the park side of the boundary, no.
How quickly can you get to Alfords Point?
Ten minutes from the depot in Mortdale. Site visits are usually same day; storm callouts usually within the hour.
Will the Shire approve removing a healthy Blackbutt near the house?
Within 3 m of the house or pool, normally yes on application. Further away it needs a documented defect or a DA reason. We tell you before you pay for a report.
