Leaning trees and steep blocks in Jannali
Jannali grew on the hillside above the Woronora, and the streets off Box Road and Wattle Road fall away fast enough that a rear yard can be a full storey below the house. The gums that came with the subdivision — Scribbly Gums, Sydney Red Gums, Blackbutts, Grey Gums — have grown toward the light, which means toward the river and over the lower neighbour. When one of them needs to come down it is a rigging problem before it is a cutting problem.
We plan Jannali removals around the drop zone. The climber works from the top with lowering lines to a device on the ground, each section is guided to a cleared spot, and the ground crew cuts and carries or chips. Nothing free-falls. Where a crane can reach from the street on the ridge side we use it and the job is done in a day. The stump is ground below turf level and the site swept.
Sutherland Shire Council protects every tree over 100 mm trunk, and we check every Jannali tree against the rules before you apply — and tell you first if the Shire is unlikely to approve, so a reduction can be quoted instead.

Council: Sutherland Shire Council — protected from a 100 mm trunk at 500 mm above ground; Camphor Laurel, Weeping Fig, Rubber Tree, Italian Cypress, pines, wattles and fruit trees exempt; dead trees without hollows exempt; storm-broken limbs and roofline clearance exempt; within 3 m of the house or pool normally approved on application; up to 28 business days.
Bushfire: The Woronora side of Jannali and Bonnet Bay is bushfire-prone. Under the RFS 10/50 rule you may be able to clear trees within 10 m of the house without council approval; the RFS online tool tells you if your lot qualifies, and we work to it. See the 10/50 rule.
Slope: On the steep blocks nothing but the climber and the rope go below the house. Timber comes up by hand or is chipped at the bottom and left as mulch if you want it. It costs more than a flat removal; we price it honestly rather than quoting flat and adding on the day.

Is a leaning gum dangerous?
Not necessarily — many Jannali gums have leaned toward the light for decades. What matters is whether the lean is new, whether the soil has lifted on the tension side, and what is underneath. We climb and check, then tell you in writing.
Can you remove a tree if we cannot get a truck anywhere near it?
Yes. Most Jannali jobs are exactly that. Rope, lowering lines and a crew that carries. If the ridge street is close enough, a crane does the lifting instead.
Do you handle the Shire application?
Yes — the application form, and we point you to an independent arborist when Council needs a report. We also tell you if the tree qualifies under 10/50 or the 3 m rule so you are not paying for an application you do not need.
