Asset protection

Reduce your bushfire fuel load — safely and legally.

If your property backs onto bush, reducing the fuel around your home can be the difference in a fire. True Roots clears and manages vegetation for bushfire protection — within the rules.

Bushfire hazard reduction means cutting the fuel load — trees, scrub, undergrowth and deadwood — around homes and assets so fire has less to feed on and crews have safer access. Done well it protects your property; done wrong it can breach council and RFS rules.

True Roots carries out asset protection zone (APZ) work, canopy and fuel reduction, and clearing that aligns with the NSW 10/50 vegetation clearing rule where your property qualifies. As AQF Level 5 arborists we identify protected vegetation first, then clear, mulch and recycle the rest — see vegetation management and land clearing.

Bushfire clearing questions

Good to know.

What is the NSW 10/50 rule?

In designated bushfire-prone areas it lets you clear trees within 10 metres of your home and underlying vegetation within 50 metres without council approval — within limits. We check if you qualify. See our 10/50 guide.

Do I need approval for bushfire clearing?

It depends on your property and what you’re clearing. Some work falls under the 10/50 rule or RFS hazard-reduction provisions; other work needs council approval. We assess and advise.

What is an asset protection zone (APZ)?

A managed buffer of reduced fuel around buildings that slows a fire and gives it less to burn. We establish and maintain APZs to the required standard.

When should I do hazard reduction?

Ideally well before fire season, and maintained each year so fuel doesn’t build back up.
